How to discover which companies are most active in a project

Hey, Everyone,

When you are running an open source project, you often want to get a sense of which companies are the most active technical contributors to it. How do you figure this out though?

Fortunately, this is easy with LFX Insights.

Here’s how…

Step 1: Choose your project

Head over to Insights and choose your project by clicking on the Go to Projects button:

In this example, we will look at the Academy Software Foundation projects.

Step 2: Open the Technical Metrics

When you go to the projects view, you will see the overall metrics for that collection of projects:

Click on the Technical Metrics option in the left menu.

Step 3: See top contributing companies

Now, in the main body of the LFX Insights screen, you can see a graph showing the proportion of which companies have made the most technical contributions to the project:

Step 4: Recognize and Engage

With this information, it opens up all kinds of possibilities to continue to grow a relationship with different organizations in your project. Here is some food for thought…

For the top organizations:
Reach out to them, thank them for their contributions, and explore ways to continue growing their active participation in the project.

For growing organizations:
If you are seeing companies contributing more and more to your project, reach out to them, and start to engage with them. Find opportunities to simplify their participation, find areas of common interest, resolve issues, and more.

For lower levels of contribution:
For companies that are occasionally contributing, reach out to those companies and ask them if there is anything you can do to make their experience easier and more enjoyable.

How would you use this data to help grow the relationship and participation with different commercial contributors?
