Platform feedback from being a mentor in 2023. First raised Slack. @krook may have taken it somewhere on @Nate_Waddington’s recommendation.
- can’t filter by only people who are “Tasks completed”
- can’t download all of them
- can’t middle-click on my name or “View profile” on a mentoring page to open my profile in a new tab
- have to do all the following up in a Google form
- can’t see the count of applicants until I get to the last page
- can’t see more than 10 per page
- can’t get back to page 1 from page 5
- pages don’t have URLs
- “download mentees by status” sorts by surname, which isn’t a possible sort for the site, so I’m unable to use the downloaded sheet as an index to the things I have to go through one at a time
- “tasks submitted” is not a status
- No markdown support in the description
- downloaded file is called “task_file.pdf”
- the CSV download doesn’t bear any relation to the web UI (50 rows, 45 lines in CSV, mismatched status etc)

Thank you @craigbox for reaching out and sharing your feedback along with suggestions for improvements. We appreciate your input. Please see our responses below:
-
Q: Can’t filter by only people who are “Tasks completed”
A: This filter to show only applications that have all prerequisite tasks completed was recently added with our latest release in August. Please let us know if you’re experiencing any further issues with this item as it is fully resolved & QA tested.
-
Q: Can’t download all of them
A: Please provide more details on this. We recently made some fixes in this area; please try again and see if you are still facing the same issue. You should now be able to download all mentees either with or without filters applied.

Q: Can’t middle-click on my name or “View profile” on a mentoring page to open my profile in a new tab
A: Please provide more details on this; I was not able to reproduce this. A small video or quick meeting to show me the issue would be ideal if that works for you.

Q: Have to do all the following up in a Google form
A: This is feedback I will discuss with Nate W and allow him to give you an update after we sync on it. It is the current CNCF process, although I agree it needs improvement on our product end to close the gaps that require Nate to work from a form.

Q: Can’t see the count of applicants until I get to the last page
A: This is a limitation of the backend database we are using. However, we may find a way around this, and I have captured this a feature request. It would be great to know more about why this is important to you from the mentor side. My guess is to know how many mentees you have to review and make decisions on, however I want to ask so as not to miss any important details.

Q: Can’t see more than 10 per page
A: We recently added a feature where the page size can be set between 10 and 100 applicants per page.
-
Q: Can’t get back to page 1 from page 5
A: This is a limitation of the backend database, which doesn’t support pagination. How important is this request, and any more information on why would be great.
-
Q: Pages don’t have URLs
A: This is a limitation of the backend database, which doesn’t support pagination. Same as above on importance
-
Q: “Download mentees by status” sorts by surname, which isn’t a possible sort for the site, so I’m unable to use the downloaded sheet as an index to the things I have to go through one at a time
A: Please file a feature request to add this sorting. We have brought a search feature that works making this easier as a workaround, however agreed that sorting is an important feature.
-
Q: “Tasks submitted” is not a status
A: Please provide more details on this point. We recently added “filter” and “download” options based on “Tasks Submitted.” We hope this adds the functionality you’re needing.
-
Q: No markdown support in the description
A: Please file a feature request to add this functionality.
-
Q: Downloaded file is called “task_file.pdf”
A: Please provide more details about the naming convention you would prefer for downloaded files, such as program name, status, date, etc., and file it as a feature request.
-
Q: The CSV download doesn’t bear any relation to the web UI (50 rows, 45 lines in CSV, mismatched status, etc.)
A: This may be a caching issue. We recently made some fixes in this area; please try again and see if you are still facing the same issue.
